The Lincolnshire Research Observatory Partnership

The Lincolnshire Research Observatory (LRO) is a partnership of organisations across the County who aim to share and improve access to quality information on Lincolnshire. 

The LRO website is maintained within the Economic Regeneration department of Lincolnshire County Council.	Dr. Mandy Bretman (Acting Director of Public Health, Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust) is chair of the LRO partnership and steering group.

LRO Partner organisations from public, private and voluntary sectors are represented on the LRO steering group and meet on a regular basis to share their views and advice on access to data.

Primary Objectives

The primary objectives of the Lincolnshire Research Observatory (LRO) partnership are to:

• Act as a single point of reference for information on the County
• Improve the availability and use of this information
• Raise the levels of expertise and capacity amongst partners
• Reduce the duplication of effort and research fatigue
• Provide a seamless approach to data provision

The Lincolnshire Research Observatory Website

The LRO website was launched in April 2001 with the aim of becoming a premier location of information resources on Lincolnshire. The site acts as a central access point to data and expertise supplied by various partner organisations and provides users with the facility to view and download reports on key local issues, and to chart and map a wide range of data down to low geographical level.

The site currently has over 1000 registered users including those from the general public, education, and over 300 local, regional and national organisations.

This project has been funded by Lincolnshire County Council's Co-Financing Programme.

The LRO Online Research and Consultation Calendar

Welcome to the Lincolnshire Research Observatory Research and Consultation Calendar. This calendar has been designed for users to share information and good practice on research activities that are taking place across the county.

1. Interested in seeing all posted activities? Just select ‘View Calendar’ from the left-hand menu to view a complete list of all activities and the timescales over which they are taking place.
2. Alternatively you can choose only to see items of particular interest. Just select ‘Search Calendar’ from the left-hand menu then enter your search criteria.
3. To tell us about a research or consultation activity just select ‘Add Entry’ from the left-hand menu. Any entry will be moderated by the site administrator before being accepted for posting on the site.

Performing a Search

• Documents and Saved Maps
  
  There are a variety of  reports currently on the site providing analysis and narrative on a range of local issues. The selection of documents available range from one page bulletins to more in depth reports, business plans and strategies. A number of previously saved thematic and smoothed maps are also available in this area.
  All of these can be viewed or downloaded from the site along with a document summary and contact details for further information.

• Datasets

  Over 100 data sets are currently held on the site, holding statistics down to local level and covering a wide range of different issues. Following selection, this data can be presented in tables or charts, mapped using our interactive facility, or downloaded for manipulation in your own software.
  
  

• Maps
  
  As well as the interactive facility for mapping data sets, the site also contains a range of static maps available for you to view or download.

• Further Information
  
  Selecting to perform a full site search will return details of all available site material, including further contacts and items posted on our site notice board, that are relevant to your search criteria.

  Site Access and Licences

  When entering this site as a visitor to you will be able to access a selection of the material held on the site including information in the “About Us” and “Contacts and Links” sections. You can also browse our selection of reports and maps but may not be able to view or download individual documents.

  To make full use of the material available on our site, including our advanced mapping facility, you will need to register. Registration is simple and is completely free of charge in the majority of cases, just use the link at the bottom of the screen.

  Once registered you may also notice that some additional access groups are available to selected users. These give access to a small amount of additional site content which is restricted, for example, due its sensitive nature. A full explanation of these is given with each group, however if you believe that you are eligible for access to one of these groups please use the link provided to let us know.
